A high-level delegation from the Somali Federal Government has arrived in Las Anod, the capital city of the newly established North East Somalia Federal State, to participate in the official inauguration ceremony.

Hundreds of delegates are expected to attend the event, arriving from across Somalia and from the Somali diaspora abroad, making the inauguration one of the most significant political gatherings in the region’s recent history.

The Somali Federal Government has made sustained and intensive efforts over the past three years to support and ensure the establishment of the new federal member state in northern Somalia.

The newly formed administration comprises territories previously contested between Somaliland and Puntland, marking a major political development in the federalization process of Somalia. Federal officials describe the formation of the state as a step toward inclusive governance, stability, and local representation.

Meanwhile, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to arrive in Las Anod within the coming hours or days to attend the inauguration, further underscoring the federal government’s support.

Both Somaliland and Puntland authorities have publicly expressed concerns regarding the inauguration ceremony and the presence of senior federal delegates in the area, reflecting ongoing political sensitivities surrounding territorial claims and governance arrangements in northern Somalia.
