High-Level Delegation Led by Somali President Launches Diplomatic Campaign

One Monday 29 December 2025 A high-level delegation led by the President of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, departed the country on Monday, 29 December 2025, launching a political and diplomatic campaign in response to what Somalia describes as an Israeli move threatening Somalia’s sovereignty.

The President’s trip follows his recent address to Parliament on the national political situation and aims to counter the so-called independence announcement attributed to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which Somali authorities have rejected as illegal and unacceptable.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud began his journey in Djibouti, where he held consultative talks with H.E. Ismail Omar Guelleh, focusing on building an international alliance against what Somalia has described as a false recognition effort targeting Somali unity and territorial integrity.

According to government sources, the President is planning a series of diplomatic visits to countries across different regions to oppose any attempt to divide Somali territory, stressing that such actions are unacceptable to the Somali people and contrary to international law.

The President is expected to visit key allies of the Somali government, including Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and several Western countries. Sources further indicate that H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud may address the Arab League Parliament and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Assembly to seek broader political and diplomatic support.

The Federal Government of Somalia has reiterated that Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable and will be defended through diplomatic and legal channels.
