A group of Somaliland politicians serving within the Federal Government of Somalia held a press conference to express their concerns over discrimination, exclusion, and violations directed against them, particularly in relation to Somaliland’s political position and recent public discourse, including reactions to Somaliland’s external engagements.
Dozens of senior officials from Somaliland participated in the press statement, including the Deputy Prime Minister, the Attorney General, Senators, legislators, and Members of Parliament. All participants raised serious concerns about the increasingly hostile rhetoric and aggressive attitudes directed at them in the media and public spaces.
In their statement, the officials emphasized the following points:
- “We can no longer accept the deliberate attacks against Somaliland politicians based in Mogadishu.”
- “The people of Somaliland have felt excluded and discriminated against by national leadership for the past three decades.”
- “Efforts to promote unity and national cohesion have been weak and undermined by persistent hostility.”
- “We are elected political representatives of our people, land, and regions, and we demand an equal role and fair participation in national decision-making.”
The group called for respect, inclusion, and constructive political dialogue, stressing that lasting unity can only be achieved through equality, mutual recognition, and peaceful engagement.
