Within the past week, the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, delivered a public address to the Somali people through national media, outlining key political, diplomatic, and sovereignty-related issues facing the country. The speech covered a wide range of national matters, including foreign relations, security, and the unity of the Somali state.
In his remarks, the President emphasized that canceling the agreement with United Arab Emirates was not an easy decision, noting that Somalia and the UAE had previously maintained strong and cooperative relations.
He stated that the relationship has now formally ended following a resolution passed by the Somali Federal Parliament, which nullified contracts and agreements between the two sides.
The President acknowledged that the UAE had previously provided support to the Somali National Army but confirmed that such cooperation is no longer in place.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud concluded his speech by reaffirming that the unity and sovereignty of Somalia are firm, clear, and non-negotiable.
He warned that any individuals or actors working against Somalia’s national unity and sovereignty would not be tolerated and would be eliminated from the country. He stressed that safeguarding national independence remains a top priority for his administration.
