Who Is Security Somalia Representee President

 

The new Permanent Representative of Somalia to the United Nations, Abukar Dahir Osman, presented his credentials today to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

 

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Osman served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the President of Somalia from 2014 to 2017. He was Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Security from 2012 to 2014 and Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister of the Transitional Federal Government from 2010 to 2011.

 

Mr. Osman also spent several years in the United States, where he worked in Ohio with the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services. From 2007 to 2012, he served as Supervisor of the Adult Medicaid Unit, having previously held positions as Social Programme Specialist (2005–2007) and Case Manager (1999–2005). During this period, he founded Beacon Educational Services, serving as a consultant from 2007 to 2010, and was Deputy Director of the International Academy of Columbus from 2002 to 2006.

 

Earlier in his career, Mr. Osman was a Documentation Specialist at the United Nations Centre for Human Rights in Tirana, Albania (1996–1998). From 1987 to 1988, he served as Director of the Somali National Documentation Centre within Somalia’s Ministry of National Planning. He began his civil service career as a Clerk in the Ministry of National Planning.

 

Mr. Osman graduated from Illinois State University in 1986. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science from the University of Wisconsin (1990) and a Master of Business Administration from Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio (2009).
