A Close Door Presidential Meeting

A closed-door meeting was held between the President of Somalia and the President of Turkey following what Somalia describes as an illegal attack on its sovereignty and the so-called recognition of Somaliland, a breakaway region of Somalia.

In response to these developments, H.E. Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, traveled abroad for urgent political consultations. During the meeting, both presidents discussed the establishment of a coalition of nations to stand with Somalia on this issue.

H.E. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s strong support for Somalia during this difficult period and condemned the action as a violation of international law. He pledged that Turkey would continue to support Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and diplomatic efforts against what was described as a reckless and unlawful attempt to undermine the country’s independence.
